Nutritional Policy FAQs
Several parents have had questions concerning bringing food at lunch for their children or friends. Please see below for answers to a few of your FAQs.
- Can we have a food fundraiser during the school day?
No. You cannot sell food and/or beverages as a fundraiser during the school day. Non-food fundraisers are encouraged for all times, however, food as a fundraiser after the school day, including booster club sales, PTA’s, and concession stands is permitted.
- Can we have pizza/popcorn parties?
No, you cannot have individual teachers, groups, or organizations having their own pizza parties. Exception: These parties are allowable only if the entire campus will be participating and it’s identified as one of the three allowable exempted days for your campus.
- Can we sell food and/or beverages at our Saturday campus function?
Yes. The nutrition policy only governs the school day
- Can we use food for instructional purposes?
Yes, in limited circumstances. A small sample or a bite of food when accompanied by lessons about food or culture is permissible. But, food cannot be used to teach counting of fractions.
- Can we sell, provide, give students and staff Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value (FMNV’s)?
No. FMNV’s are not allowed at anytime, anywhere on AISD campuses.
- Can parents bring fast food to the school for their child to eat during lunch?
Yes. We cannot govern what parents provide for their own children; however, they cannot provide food for other children.
- Can we have parties during lunch periods in the cafeteria?
No. Parties of any kind are not allowed during meal times in the cafeteria or in places where school meals are eaten.
- Can students have food delivered to them from restaurants for lunch?
No. Students cannot have food delivered to them on campus.
