This club builds, problem solving, and teamwork in enjoyable and meaningful ways. Competition available. Sponsored by Ms. LaTorre and parent David Wiedenfeld Open to 7th and 8th graders only. This team will NOT meet on a weekly basis as other clubs do. Rather, team members will receive a problem, go off and work on aspects of it independently, and then meet back together at designated intervals. Details forthcoming.
MATHCOUNTS is a national math coaching and competition program that increases enthusiasm for and enhances achievement in middle school mathematics throughout the United States. The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade student competitors are attracted to MATHCOUNTS because it provides an exciting and challenging forum for math achievements while rewarding students for their accomplishments. Students with qualifying scholastic achievement will be invited to complete an application as 7th and 8th graders. Teachers select members based on national criteria. Traditionally, the NJHS takes a spring trip to Washington, D.C. Mrs. Pydyn and Ms. Torres sponsor.
Offered as a chance to learn the art of knitting, and make something useful. Ms. LaTorre sponsors the group and offers this as a community service opportunity. Knitting occurs on Wednesdays at 3:45-5 in Mrs. LaTorre’s rm 109.
Sponsored by the MMS counselors, this group is led by trained high school girls and promotes healthy self-esteem, confidence, and leadership skills; a great group for girls who like to talk about what's bothering them. Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact competitive team sport played with a flying disc. The object is to score points by passing the disc to a player in the opposing end zone. Ultimate is distinguished by the principles of fair play and the joy of play. Meets Wednesdays from 3:35-5:15 until mid October and then resumes in the Spring. Coach Schmidt sponsors.
